Israeli police have reported the arrest of 16 individuals in Jerusalem's Old City on suspicion of incitement and identification with terrorism and terrorists following Friday prayers. The incident occurred at the Temple Mount, known as the Haram ash-Sharif complex by Muslims and the Western Wall and al-Aqsa mosque by Jews. These sites hold significant religious importance for both Jews and Muslims and have been a focal point of tensions between Israelis and Palestinians.
According to the police statement, after the evening and dawn prayers on Friday and Saturday, some individuals used the opportunity to engage in incitement and express support for terrorism. Following investigative operations, 16 suspects have been arrested, with more arrests expected.
The police alleged that during the incitement calls, there were expressions of support for the Hamas terrorist organization, calls to harm Jews, and encouragement for the Hezbollah terrorist organization to target Tel Aviv. It is important to note that supporting Hamas and advocating harm against Jews are illegal in Israel.
