Off-Broadway limited engagement at The Vineyard's Dimson Theater
Reunites cast and creative team from 2023 world premiere at The Tank
Inspired by mental health policies at Yale drama school
Maia Novi's Invasive Species has been announced to have an Off-Broadway limited engagement at The Vineyard's Dimson Theater. The production is set to reunite the cast and creative team from the dark comedy's 2023 world premiere at The Tank, where its run was extended due to high demand.
The play, penned by Novi in response to discussions surrounding mental health policies at Yale's drama school where she was a student, follows the journey of an Argentinean actor who pushes the boundaries of her American dream. Described by the producers as 'an outrageous true story about lying to live, living to lie, and how immigrating to the U.S. might just be the role of a lifetime,' Invasive Species will commence previews on May 7, with an official opening night scheduled for May 15. The limited 8-week visiting engagement will run through June 30.
Novi will be making the transition from the 2023 production, alongside her fellow ensemble members Raffi Donatich, Sam Gonzalez, Alexandra Maurice, and Julian Sanchez. The direction of Invasive Species is in the capable hands of Pulitzer Prize finalist Michael Breslin, renowned for works such as Circle Jerk and This American Wife. Assisting Breslin is Louisa Jacobson, known for her role in The Gilded Age.
The production team of Invasive Species comprises Folk Productions, Danielle Perelman, and Arterial Projects. Noteworthy executive producer Jeremy O. Harris, the Tony Award-nominated writer of Slave Play, represents his company alongside Josh Godfrey, bb2. Additional producers include Amauta Marston-Firmino, associate producers David Tao & Benjamin Nelson, and co-producers Vaughn Feighan, Chase Landow, Tira Harpaz, Brandon Sanchez, and Rachel Weiss.
