NFL Draft: Top Defensive Prospects Still Available For Teams

The NFL draft's final four rounds are set to showcase a plethora of talented players after the top 100 prospects have been selected. Following a record-breaking first round dominated by offensive players, the focus shifted to defense on Friday.

The Atlanta Falcons made a bold move by selecting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8, despite recently signing Kirk Cousins to a lucrative deal. The team then continued to bolster their defense by drafting Clemson defensive lineman Ruke Orhorhoro in the second round.

Defensive players took center stage on Friday, with the Washington Commanders picking Illinois defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton among the 20 defenders selected in the round. The day saw a flurry of trades as teams maneuvered to secure their desired players.

Rice wide receiver Luke McCaffrey rounded out the evening's selections, going to Washington with the 100th overall pick. With 54 offensive and 46 defensive players drafted so far, the stage is set for an exciting conclusion to the draft on Saturday.

As teams prepare for the final rounds, standout players like former Texas tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders, Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin, and Tennessee running back Jaylen Wright are expected to draw significant interest. On the defensive side, cornerbacks D.J. James, Kris Abrams-Draine, and Khyree Jackson are among the top prospects available. James showcased his ball-hawking skills at Auburn, while Abrams-Draine's transition from wide receiver to cornerback proved successful with seven interceptions in college.

Colorado State outside linebacker Mohamed Kamara, the reigning Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year, is another standout to watch. With an impressive career sack total and a knack for disrupting offenses, Kamara is a player to keep an eye on as the draft progresses.
