Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel has announced her decision to step down from her post on March 8. This move comes as former President Donald Trump asserts control over the GOP and moves closer to securing another presidential nomination.

In a statement released on Monday morning, McDaniel stated, 'I have decided to step aside at our Spring Training on March 8 in Houston to allow our nominee to select a Chair of their choosing.' She emphasized the tradition of the RNC undergoing changes once a nominee is chosen and expressed her intention to honor that tradition.

Trump had previously indicated his preference for North Carolina GOP Chair Michael Whatley to replace McDaniel. Whatley, a seasoned operative with a focus on voter fraud issues, was chosen by Trump to lead the RNC. Additionally, Trump selected his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to serve as committee co-chair.

McDaniel's departure from the RNC leadership was not unexpected given Trump's increasing influence within the party. As the GOP prepares for the upcoming presidential election, these changes in leadership signal a shift in the party's direction and priorities.
