The story began when Mark Perdue purchased a Powerball ticket for the Oct. 30 drawing at an AM Express store in Bowling Green. A week later, the store owner informed him that he had won the lottery, which came as a surprise to Perdue.

However, the challenge was locating the winning ticket. Perdue and his wife spent over three months searching for it, fearing it was gone forever. Eventually, they stumbled upon the ticket in a company car that Perdue had inspected. It had apparently fallen out of his pocket during a previous use of the vehicle.
