Sandler, a former SNL cast member, expressed his belief that Michaels, who is 79 years old, is not likely to step down from his role anytime soon. In an interview at the premiere of his new Netflix film Spaceman, Sandler mentioned that he had spoken to Michaels and felt that Michaels is still passionate about his work on the long-running NBC sketch comedy series.

During a previous interview at the Emmy Awards, Michaels hinted at the possibility of Tina Fey being his potential successor, acknowledging her talent and contributions to the entertainment industry.
