Patch 1.5 resets all player preset unlock progress and ARP levels.
Players with ARP below 2000 set to 1500; above 2000 set to 2000.
New preset system categorizes gear into three tiers for balanced matchmaking.
Escape From Tarkov Arena's first major patch, version 1.5, has been released, addressing numerous player concerns since the game's launch. This significant update, set to go live today, marks the initial major patch following Arena's late last year debut and includes a full reset for all players' preset unlock progress and ARP levels.
Players with an ARP below 2000 will have their new ARP set at 1500, while those with an ARP above 2000 will see their new ARP set at 2000. The patch introduces a revamped preset system, categorizing presets into three tiers based on gear strength. Before matchmaking, players will select a tier, ensuring balanced gameplay by matching players with similar presets.
The update also streamlines the preset unlocking process, allowing players to choose one preset from each class to progress towards, earning XP by playing as that class. This eliminates the need to grind with undesirable presets to unlock the next in line. Additionally, presets have been rebalanced, with some removed entirely.
Armor and hitboxes have been overhauled, incorporating systems from the main Escape From Tarkov game. Different body areas now have distinct hitboxes, and armor may not protect all areas. Changes to how armor reacts to gunfire, including recent adjustments from the main Tarkov patch, have been implemented.
Quality-of-life enhancements, bug fixes, and improvements to the custom game system are also included in the patch notes, hinting at potential esports developments for Arena. Despite a promising launch, Escape From Tarkov Arena faced challenges due to design choices, many of which have been rectified in this update.
With these improvements, Arena aims to fulfill its potential, though re-engaging players who left early on may prove challenging. For newcomers, an upcoming Twitch drops campaign will offer free access to experience the game firsthand.
