Ohio Sen. JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential candidate, has accused special counsel Jack Smith of attempting to influence the 2024 election through legal actions against former President Donald Trump. Vance made these statements following the filing of a superseding indictment in the election interference case on Tuesday.
Vance criticized Smith for what he perceived as a pattern of filing lawsuits to sway election outcomes. While acknowledging that he had not read the entire document, Vance asserted that the indictment appeared to be another instance of Smith's alleged interference efforts.
The superseding indictment, according to Vance, attempted to redefine the role of Vice President Mike Pence in the events surrounding the January 6 certification proceeding. Prosecutors argue that Trump's actions in pressuring Pence exceeded the boundaries of his official duties.
